There are two ways to install solar on a house:
1. In a stand alone system your house is designed to be totally self sufficient. Power is stored in your battery bank for use in bad weather or at night. Usually a generator is installed as backup power. (Mostly remote properties)

2. In a grid connect system no batteries are required. The solar panels integrate with your house's power supply from your electricity company. (Mostly urban homes)
